Todd Black, ’87, earned his B.A. in physical education from Concordia and his M.A. in administration and leadership from St. Xavier University.

            
Black starred at wide receiver for the Cougar football team during the 1984 and 1985 seasons following two years at Concordia St. Paul. His multiple honors during the 1985 season included first-team All-American, Most Valuable Player of the Illini-Badger Conference, and team MVP. Black remained in the top ten in NCAA career catches and touchdowns for much of the eighties and nineties. He continues to hold single-game records for receptions (14) and receiving yards (211) as well as season records for receptions (63) and touchdowns (13).

 

Black became the first Cougar to play professional football when he played part of the 1987 season for the Chicago Bears under Mike Ditka. He went on to coach football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and diving at Oak Park-River Forest High School in Oak Park, Illinois. Black has also served as assistant athletic director at OPRF while teaching physical education and psychology for over 16 years and earning a mention in Who’s Who in Education. His community achievements include work with the Special Olympics and Fellowship of Christian Athletes as well as winning the Outstanding Program Award for DuPage County Special Education.
