John Haubenstricker, ’61 – Haubenstricker earned his B.S. in elementary education from Concordia, his M.S. in physical education from the University of Minnesota, and his PhD in motor development from Michigan State University.

Haubenstricker was a four-year letterman in football and baseball and also played two years of junior varsity basketball. He was a standout on the gridiron at quarterback, halfback and fullback, and he was elected team captain his senior year. His single-game rushing total of 146 yards stood as a Concordia football record for over 30 years. After a year of graduate study, Haubenstricker joined the Cougar coaching ranks, heading up the baseball team for three years and assisting in football for eight seasons. He helped lead the 1962 football Cougars to a school season record of 381 yards passing defense (42.3 yards per game). Haubenstricker also began Concordia’s wrestling program during the 1965-66 school year and coached the team for their first three seasons before beginning his doctoral study. Upon his return, he assisted with the wrestling program for one year.

Haubenstricker was a member of the Concordia faculty from 1962 to 1973. He then moved on to Michigan State University where he taught kinesiology for 30 years. Haubenstricker retired in 2003 with the rank of professor emeritus.
