Ralph Munger, ’74, earned his B.A. in elementary education/physical education from Concordia and his M.A. in physical education from Central Michigan University in 1980.
Munger was a four-year letterman in football. He was named an All-NAIA All-District Running Back and the Cougars’ Most Valuable Player in 1974. Munger was also recognized among the All-Lutheran Outstanding College Athletes of America in 1973. A two-year letterman in track as well, Munger was a member of the 1972 NIIC Championship team.
Munger returned to his native Michigan to coach football for 12 years at Frankenmuth High School. He moved on to Rockford High School where he has coached since 1992. His teams have combined for 13 playoff appearances, 14 conference championships, six regional titles, two district championships and one state championship appearance. Munger is a ten-time Regional Coach of the Year as selected by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.
Munger has been involved in public school education for over 28 years, teaching grades 1-12 in various capacities. He has initiated several elementary and middle school intramural programs. Munger has also been involved with numerous youth camps and clinics in Michigan, and he is credited with reestablishing the Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter in Frankenmuth.
In 2001, Munger was selected to the Frankenmuth Softball Hall of Fame and the Rockford Sports Hall of Fame. His love of softball continues through coaching JV girls’ softball at Rockford.
