Concordia University Chicago Athletics

Stan Brassie, ’63, earned his master’s and doctorate in physical education from the University of Iowa in 1965 and 1969. He also received his Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Concordia in 1997.

            
During his time at Concordia, Brassie competed in basketball and baseball. He was captain of the basketball team from 1956 to 1960 and was named to the CIT All-Tournament Team in 1959.

After leaving Concordia, Brassie coached cross-country, basketball and tennis at Concordia Seward (Neb.) from 1967 to 1973, and served as athletic director from 1969 to 1973. Brassie became department chair in physical education at Indiana State University in 1973, later holding the same position from 1979 to 2001 at the University of Georgia. He served as the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) president in 1985-86. Honors received include the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Honor (AAHPERD) Award in 1990 and the NASPE Achievement Award in Sport Management in 2001. Brassie was inducted into the Concordia Seward Hall of Fame in 2001.

Recently, Brassie has served as secretary of the U.S. Collegiate Sports Council of the U.S. Olympic Committee with responsibilities for the U.S.A. team in the World University Games.
