Andrea Anderson BA ’79 earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary education. She earned a Master’s degree in education from Florida Atlantic University in 1988.
Anderson competed four years each in field hockey, basketball and softball, serving as captain or co-captain in each sport. In field hockey, she represented Concordia three times on North Central Field Hockey Association All-College teams. As a point guard for the basketball team, she helped lead the 1978-79 team to a conference and a district championship; the Cougars went 54-34 during her four seasons. Anderson was also a shortstop and lead-off hitter for the softball team, batting .382 in 1977 and .396 in 1978. She was named All-Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference in 1979.
For her prowess in three sports, Anderson earned the Lutheran Brotherhood Outstanding Lutheran College Athlete award in 1979. That same year, she was also the recipient of CUC’s A.W. Gross Distinguished Senior Scholar award.
Anderson began her professional career as a teacher at Lutheran High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL and would return to serve as principal in 1985, following one year as teacher and athletic director at Our Savior Lutheran in New York City. Anderson was also principal for Lutheran Central in Fort Lauderdale and Ashburn Lutheran in Chicago. She retired from the Oak Lawn, IL School District 123 after serving 17 years as an assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent.
