Athletic Hall of Fame
Dr. Sherwin Ho has served as head team physician for all Concordia team sports since 1991.
During that time, he has attended to more than 3,700 Concordia student-athletes during visits to campus for weekly injury clinics and games. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the campus Community Health Clinic.
Originally from Hawaii, Dr. Ho received his degrees in zoology/marine biology and Medicine from the University of Hawaii in 1980. He served his internship in General Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Hawaii and his Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Chicago.
As a full-time Professor of Surgery and Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Chicago, Dr. Ho has been as dedicated to teaching as he has to surgery. He has taught countless athletic trainers and student trainers in the Concordia training room over the past 20 years.
Dr. Ho is a member of the prestigious Herodicus Society, an elite society of the world’s leading sports medicine physicians. He was the recipient of the Concordia Community Award for Teaching in 2009 and was the first and only continuous “Top Doctor” in Sports Medicine named by Castle and Connolly and Chicago Magazine in their biannual ratings, as well as being similarly honored by Men’s Health, Women’s Health and Golf Digest. He is also past president of the Illinois Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Ho serves as a team physician for the USA Volleyball and as an orthopaedic consultant for the China National Women’s Volleyball team. He attended the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China as a guest of both teams. From 2006 to 2009, he served as a team physician for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.
