Theodore W. Leitz, ’42, received his master’s degree in the field of counseling and education from Northwestern University in 1950.

            
Leitz was a four-sport varsity athlete at Concordia Teachers College. He lettered for four years in football where he earned two stars for co-captain his junior year and another for captain his senior year. Leitz also lettered three years in baseball where he led the team in home runs and batted over .400 every year. He lettered two times in basketball and twice for throwing discus and shot put on the track team. Leitz was an All-American honorable mention during his senior year of track. He was invited to play for a Chicago Cubs’ farm team in 1940 but declined.

            
Leitz went on to become the athletic director at Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park. There, he coached varsity basketball and golf while also introducing football. Leitz wrote the Walther Lutheran fight song that is still used today. He started the football programs at Chicago Lutheran High School and the Luther Institute of Chicago.

Leitz moved to Los Angeles where he was the principal of Los Angeles High School from 1977 to 1980.
