Concordia Men’s Tennis reigned as champion of the Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference (NIIC) for four consecutive years. Coached by Tom Faszholz, the team accumulated a record of 48-4 from 1970 to 1973. These four teams featured highly motivated, fun-loving and consistent players.
 
Mark Schmidt BA ’74 led as No. 1 singles for three seasons and NIIC champion for two. Calvin Behrens BA ’73, MA ’76 played No. 1 in 1970 and never lost a match as No. 2 in three years of NIIC play. Team captain, Ed Ristau BA ’73, was champion at No. 3 singles in 1970. Gale McKim BA ’73 compiled a 140—12 career record. Steve Madsen BA ’71 was champion at No. 3. Larry Torbeck BA ’71 was NIIC champion at Nos. 5 and 6, and Eric Brackmann BA ’74 at No. 4 & 5. In 1970, Art Schroeder BA ’70 played strong at No. 5; Bob Rosin BA ’73 was No. 6 titleholder in 1972. Bob Dickerson BA ’74 was No. 5 champion in 1973.
 
In doubles play, the team captured six titles with a variety of partners during this time. Team members playing as important contributors include Louis Kingsboro BA ’74, MA ’93, David Hahn BA ’73, Steve Wentzel BA ’73, Phil Eschels BA ’74, Ken Hartman BA ’73 and Wes Courvoisier BA ’70.
 
At induction, three student athletes from these teams rank in top 10 for best career win percentages with Torbeck at the top.
