The Cougar cagers went 55-32 during his four-year tenure, and he led the 1960 team to a CIT title that broke a string of five St. Louis titles.

Hein earned his bachelor’s degree in education. He taught for 20 years at St. John’s in Elgin, Illinois and also served as Director of Evangelism. Hein then joined Aid Association for Lutherans and has worked as a representative for 25 years. He was recognized for his service to AAL and later Thrivent with his induction into Thrivent’s Hall of Fame in 2003.

Hein has also served on the boards of the Larkin Center in Elgin, an agency that treats children with emotional and mental difficulties, for 18 years, and the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Arlington Heights for four years.
