David Schnurstein BA ’81 earned a bachelor’s in physical education and a Master’s degree in athletic administration from California State University - Los Angeles in 1986.
Schnurstein lettered in football and track and field for four years. In football, Schnurstein was a four-year starter at cornerback who was named a first-team all-conference player by the Illini-Badger Conference in 1978. A two-year team captain in track, Schnurstein graduated CUC holding many records, including parts of several relay records. Individually, his outdoor triple-jump record of 45’ 0” from 1980 remained the standard for 26 years, and his indoor record of 6.4 seconds in the 50-yard dash remains a school record through 2018.
His professional career has included coaching, teaching and educational administration with positions at Lutheran high schools and middle schools in California, Nevada and Illinois. He is presently serving as principal at Turlock Christian High School in Turlock, CA.
Schnurstein’s coaching career includes the girls’ and boys’ track teams at Meadows School in Las Vegas, NV from 2002 until 2006. In that span, he led the 2003 girls to the Class 2A Nevada State Champions and the 2002 and 2004 teams to second place finishes. Schnurstein was honored as the Southern Nevada 2A Track Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2005 and the Southern Nevada 1A Football Coach of the Year for Faith Lutheran School in Las Vegas, NV in 1991.
