Judy (Meissler) Firehammer

Judy (Meissler) Firehammer, ’61, was a player and coach at Concordia Teachers College. She was a member of the field hockey (1959-60), basketball (1959-60), volleyball (1960-61), softball (1960-61), and badminton (1960-61) teams. After Concordia, she played for the USTA travel teams.

            
Besides participating in sports, Firehammer received the first Aid Association for Lutherans scholarship for excellence in physical education in 1961. She also served as the first president of Concordia’s Women’s Athletic Association from 1960 to 1961.

            
Upon graduating from Concordia, Firehammer became the women’s intramural director at Concordia from 1961 to 1963. During those years, she also coached field hockey, junior varsity basketball, volleyball and softball. In 1963, she went on to initiate the women’s athletic program at Berrien Springs High School in Michigan. She later coached varsity volleyball at St. Joseph’s High School in Michigan from 1984 to 1995.

            
Firehammer received a master’s from Western Michigan University in counseling psychology.
