David Stellwagen ’85 earned his BA in education from Concordia and his MA in physical education from Eastern Michigan University in 1992.
 
A four-year letterman in basketball and tennis, Stellwagen finished his basketball career
with 1,286 points, currently eighth place all-time. His 355 assists remain second highest all-time for the Cougars through 2014. Stellwagen was a member of the CIT champion teams in 1982 and 1985. He was honored as the CIT Most Valuable Player in 1985, scoring 46 points in leading the host Cougars to wins over St. Louis and St. Paul. Stellwagen was named to the All-Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference team in 1984 and 1985.
 
Currently fourth-best on the Cougar men’s all-time list, Stellwagen’s tennis achievements include a 43-14 career singles record. He led the 1984 conference-winning team with a 15-2 mark and earned the NIIC’s fourth singles title. Stellwagen also won conference championships as part of the Cougars’ second doubles team in 1984 and 1985. The Cougars went 40-16 during his four-year tenure.
 
Stellwagen taught seventh grade at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Farmington Hills, MI from 1985 until 1992. He taught eighth grade at St. John’s Lutheran School in Racine, WI from 1992 to 2008. While at St. John’s Racine, his seventh and eighth grade boys’ basketball team won 74 consecutive games, one of the longest streaks in Lutheran grade school basketball history. Currently, he is a middle school teacher at St. John – Emmanuel in Monroeville, IN.
