Roland Eggerding, ’45 – Eggerding received his B.S. in education from Concordia and his M.S. in geography from the University of Wisconsin in 1949. He earned a total of 11 varsity letters in three years, competing in football, baseball and track, and participating as a yell leader. In 1945, he set a record of 189’7” in the javelin throw that still stands today. 

Upon graduation, Eggerding taught and coached at Racine Lutheran and Walther Lutheran High Schools for a combined 16 years. While at Racine, he taught many of the physical education classes and started up the school’s football and baseball programs. Eggerding’s time at Walther included stints as assistant principal, registrar and dean of students. He moved on to Lutheran High School South in St. Louis where he served as principal for 28 years before retiring in 1989. Eggerding served from 1963 to 1973 on Concordia’s Board of Control and, at various times, he has served on the boards of Lutheran Radio and the Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools. Concordia conferred upon him the Spiritus Christus Medallion in 1974.
