Jim Egan, ’82 has served the Cougar athletic programs in numerous capacities since his days as a student. He has been known as “The Voice of the Cougars” since he began announcing for men’s basketball in 1979 and football in 1980. Since that time, he has added women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and, most recently, men’s and women’s soccer to the list of sports he has called. Egan has also served as Concordia’s sports information director since 1989, among which has included the archiving of several years’ worth of statistical information and the writing of regular press releases to local and national media. Currently, Egan is involved with the layout and maintenance of the Cougar athletic web site.

Egan earned his B.A. in elementary education and taught for five years in Chicago’s South Shore area before returning to Concordia in 1988. He worked for Marriott, serving as a food service manager for the campus operation until 2001. Egan has maintained his educational ties over the years as a member of the Christian Education board at Bethany Baptist Church in Harwood Heights. Currently, he volunteers with the Chicago branch of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic as a reader of material from children’s books to college texts.
