Merrell Davis BA ’13 earned his bachelor’s degree in business communication and was a four-year member of the indoor and outdoor track & field teams during his time as a Cougar. From 2009 to 2013 Davis made a lasting impact setting six records across both programs that still stand.
Davis came to CUC as a two-sport athlete also competing in football. After his freshman year, Davis turned his focus to track and field. His excellence on the track began his sophomore year with success in multiple events, finishing in the Top Eight at multiple meets. With such great finishes, Davis earned his berth to his first NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the long jump finishing 19th in the nation.
He returned to the Outdoor Championships meet as a junior in multiple events including the 100-meter dash, finishing 13th, and the long jump, finishing 11th. During his senior year, Davis never finished below eighth place in any event entry.
At induction, Davis’s school record include indoor 60-meter dash (7.04 seconds), indoor 200-meter dash (22.27 seconds) and the long jump (7.14 meters) and for outdoor 100-meter dash (10.62 seconds), 200-meter dash (21.67 seconds) and the long jump (7.42 meters).
