Marianne (Kelm) Cotton BA ’93, MA ’94, after transferring to Concordia 1992, played volleyball and women’s basketball two years for the Cougars. During her time in River Forest, she made a record-setting impact on and off the court.
In volleyball, Cotton stood out as a middle blocker in the Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference (NIIC). She rounded out her career with an impressive .419 hitting percentage, standing as the best career record in CUC history. This middle blocker created success on defense at the net. She registered 176 solo blocks along with 279 block assists for 455 total career blocks. These stats rank Cotton in the top five for each women’s volleyball category. These noteworthy statistics earned her 1993 NIIC Player of the Year honors and qualifying for the Midwest All-Region team her senior year.
Cotton was also a member of the 1992 – 93 women’s basketball team. She earned a double-double average for the season, recording 13.6 rebounds per game and 17.1 points per game from the field. This one season on the court was enough to earn Cotton a second NIIC All-Conference honor.
She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology followed by a Masters of Arts in Human Services in 1994.
