RECAP: 2025 Football Season

RIVER FOREST, III.- The 2025 season is officially over for Concordia University Chicago (CUC) football. Returning from his first season as head coach, Coach Chase Hankins continues to build up the program, looking for a promising future and hard efforts throughout the season. The Cougars finished 4-6 overall and 2-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
 
SEASON RECAP
The Cougars hosted their  home opener to start the season against University of Minnesota Morris on September 6th. After both teams went scoreless in the first quarter, CUC battled hard to put points on the board, resulting in a nailbiting fourth quarter. The Cougars ultimately defeated the Cougars of the North, 17-16. Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) led the offensive charge with 13 completed passes for a total of 157 yards. Joron Brown (St.Joseph, Mich.) recorded a career-high of 152 rushing yards with one touchdown. Kevon Lawson (Pompano Beach, Fla.) picked up a career-high 29-yard reception, as he led the squad with seven receptions for 73 yards. Also picked up a career-high was Jayden Taylor (Southfield, Mich.), making a 32-yard reception.  With his collegiate debut freshman defensive lineman Zack Puracchio earned NACC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in week one. He picked up eight total tackles, five of them being solo and 1.5 tackles for loss. 
 
On September 13th, the Cougars traveled to Indiana to play Manchester University, securing their second win of the season, 35-14. Bosch completed 10-for-13 in the air with 217 yards thrown, including a program record tying 95-yard touchdown pass. On the receiving end of that touchdown pass was Lawson, who led with three total receptions for 102 yards. Brown continued to be the leading force on the ground, rushing for 129 yards with no loss on the day, including three touchdowns and a 53-yard rush. Wesley Jackson (Robinson, Ill.)  recorded a touchdown in the air and totaled 16 yards. Defensively, Kadin Stroer (Warrenton, Mo.) led the team with 12 total tackles, 11 of which were solo tackles, and one sack. Dameion Givens Jr. (Columbus, Ga.) and Aden Hatchett (Kennesaw, Ga.) each picked up an interception. After Brown's strong offensive performance he earned NACC Offensive Player of the Week. 
 
Entering conference play with two consecutive wins, the Cougars hosted St.Norbert College on September 20th. After falling behind by four scores, Bosch connected with Lawson for a 29-yard reception, resulting in a touchdown that put the Cougars on the board 28-7. On the defensive end, Stroer recorded a career high of ten tackles, two of them which were solo. The Cougars continued battling, finding the endzone two more times but ultimately lost 49-14. 
 
Continuing NACC play, they traveled to face Wisconsin Lutheran College on September 27th. After going down early, the Cougars weren't able to recover but persisted with their efforts. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored with Jakeob Redmond's (Bishop, Calif.) 12-yard pass to Hall. With time running short, the Cougars fell to the Warriors 28-6. 
 
In the homecoming game against Eureka College on October 4th, the Cougars struck first, as Bosch handed the ball to Brown to open the half with a 23-yard touchdown. Continuing their momentum, Bosch completed a short pass to the right to Jackson for a six-yard touchdown, putting them up 14-0. With the Cougars defense stepping up, Bosch completed a 53-yard pass to Korey Randle (East Moline, Ill.) for a touchdown, increasing the lead 21-0. The half ended with the Cougars shutting out Eureka College 28-0. With an electrifying start to the second half of the game, Bosch was able to pass short up the middle for 51 yards to Jackson, and then found Jackson again for a 17-yard touchdown, dominating 35-0. Continuing to find the endzone, the Cougars overpowered Eureka, winning 49-20 to secure their first conference win on homecoming weekend. Bosch's contribution to the Cougars victory earned him NACC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance during the game. 
 
In their return after the bye week, the Cougars secured another NACC victory, finishing off Rockford University with a final score of 37-26. Bosch passed for a total of 221 yards, with four completed touchdown passes. Bosch was sacked once but had the longest pass drive for 61 yards. Brown led on the ground rushing 166 yards, including a touchdown.Jackson received 4 total completed receptions for a total of 85 yards and two touchdown passes. Lawson followed in receiving yards with a 62 yard touchdown for CUC. Jayden Taylor (Southfield, Mich.) received a 28-yard touchdown.Stroer led the defensive line with 12 tackles, 9 being solos and leaving with a 0.5 sack with a forced fumble. Devean Shearer (Saint Charles, III.) followed Stroer with 10 tackles, 6 being solo. 
 
Coming down to their last four games, the Cougars faced rival Concordia-Wisconsin University on October 25th. Lawson snatched 185 yards, resulting in three touchdown passes in the 47-20 loss. CUC went back on the road against both Lakeland University and Benedictine University, falling short to both teams resulting in two losses, 46-16 and 38-7. In the final game of the season honoring the graduating seniors, the Cougars hosted Aurora University. Aurora went up two possessions and continued their momentum throughout the game. With switching to QBS during the second quarter senior Redmond, it was his career-best game with passing for 261 yards, with four passing touchdowns on senior day. The Cougars continued giving it their all, with Lawson and Randle scoring two touchdown passes each but the Cougars lost 59-26. 

POSTSEASON HONORS 
Eight Cougars were awarded NACC All-Conference honors at the end of the season. 
 

 
First Team
Jackson was the lone Cougar named to First Team, picking up the singular tight end spot on the list after a star-studded junior season. This year, Jackson totaled 343 receiving yards on only 23 receptions, averaging 34.3 yards per game. He collected five touchdowns across ten games. Jackson picked up a career-high 85-yard reception two times this season against Eureka College and Rockford University, scoring two touchdowns in both games as well. Jackson finished top 20 in the NACC in yards per game. This is the second time Jackson has earned All-Conference accolades after being named to First Team last season as well. 
 
Second Team
For the second time in his career, Brown was named to the NACC All-Conference Second Team. Brown led the Cougars on the ground this season, picking up a total of 733 yards, averaging 73.3 yards per game. He picked up seven touchdowns on the season across ten games. Brown picked up a career-high 166 rushing yards against Rockford University, He also added in 105 total yards in the air across ten receptions. Brown finished fifth in the NACC in rushing yards per game, total rushing yards, and touchdowns.
 
In his freshman campaign, Lawson made an immediate impact and earned his spot on the NACC All-Conference Second Team. Lawson led in the air for the Cougars, picking up 783 yards on 59 receptions, averaging 78.3 per game. He picked up ten touchdowns across ten games. Lawson collected a career-high and school record tying 95-yard reception against Manchester University while collecting 102 receiving yards as well. That career-high would be broken later in the season as Lawson would go on to pick up 185 yards in the air against Rockford University while also collecting three touchdowns. Lawson finished second in the NACC in receiving yards per game, touchdowns, and receptions per game while leading the NACC in longest reception for the season. 
 
Adam Lambaz (Elgin, Ill.) made his first appearance on the NACC All-Conference list after a strong defensive performance in his junior season. Lambaz had his name in nearly every statistical category this season, picking up 32 total tackles, 13 of which were solo. He is credited with three sacks for a total loss of 28 yards while forcing one fumble and recovering one fumble. He picked up one interception on the year for a gain of three yards. Lambaz saw a career-high six tackles in the win against University of Minnesota-Morris in the season opener. He finished in the top 25 in the NACC for sacks per game. 
 
Rounding out the NACC All-Conference Second Team accolades was Stroer, who made his freshman debut in the maroon and gold with a season to remember. Stroer led the defense with 99 total tackles, 60 of which were solo. He also led the team in interceptions with two and quarterback hurries with two. Stroer picked up nine tackles for loss on the season for a total of 32 yards, finishing 16th in the NACC in the same category. He finished second in the NACC in total tackles and average per game while leading the NACC this season in solo tackles. 
 
Honorable Mention
Picking up his second consecutive NACC All-Conference accolades, Daniel Banks (Chicago, Ill.) picked up a spot on the Honorable Mention list. Banks held the offensive line strong giving up no sacks on the season and only allowing four pressures. He held strong all season with his most notable performance coming against Benedictine University where he held the conference leader in sacks to no pressures and no sacks. He held strong for all three quarterbacks in ten games this season and collected his second All-NACC honors in as many years. 
 
Another first appearance on the NACC All-Conference list was Ezekiel Pearson (Richville, Mich.), earning Honorable Mention for his junior season. Another key member of the offensive line, Pearson helped lock down in all ten games he appeared in. He was a dependable anchor, consistently maintaining his position and denying opponents a way through to all three of the Cougars' quarterbacks this season.
 
Rounding out the All-Conference honors and earning Honorable Mention in his debut season is Wascher, who played an instrumental role in the Cougar defense this season. He dominated on the field as a defensive back, collecting 54 total tackles, 32 of which were solo. He totaled six tackles for loss for a loss of 15 yards. He added in four breakups in his ten games played. Wascher finished top 25 in the NACC in total tackles and 12th in the NACC in solo tackles. 
 
GRADUATING SENIORS 
Jakob Redmond played in eight games this year on the offensive side. He finished the season with five touchdowns, totaling 381 yards. He completed a total of 37 passes with zero interceptions, averaging 47.63 yards per game. 
 
Jonathan Aungst played in ten games this year and was a key player of the defensive side. He recorded a total of 19 solo tackles with 4 assists. He led CUC in pass breakups with a total of ten and finished with one interception. 
 
Jacob Garrison played in seven games this year on the offensive line. He provided protection for the quarterback every snap.
 
Dalton Baird played in eight games this year on the offensive side of the ball. He saw numerous looks on the passing side as a wide receiver.
 
Austin Jackson played in ten games this year on the defensive line. Jackson recorded a number of seven assisted tackles with one solo tackle. 
 
IMPACTFUL RETURNERS  
Colton Bosch was the primary quarterback and will return for the next season. He appeared in ten games with 113 completions, 1623 total yards and 19 total touchdowns. 
 
Wesley Jackson will return to the field for the Cougars next year, for his senior season. He earned All-Conference accolades after being named to First Team last season as well. He 
finished top 20 in the NACC in yards per game.
 
Joron Brown appeared in ten games at running back. He led the team in rushing yards with a career high of 781. He ran for seven touchdowns, with his longest rush being 53 yards. He totaled 105 yards with ten receptions for CUC. Brown finished fifth in the NACC in rushing yards per game, total rushing yards, and touchdowns.

Stroer picked up nine tackles for loss on the season for a total of 32 yards, finishing 16th in the NACC in the same category. He finished second in the NACC in total tackles and average per game while leading the NACC this season in solo tackles.
