CUC Struggles on the Road

LISLE, ILL.- The Concordia Chicago University (CUC) football team traveled on the road against Benedictine University (BenU) for another weekend of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC). CUC ended up falling short 38-7 against BenU.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) passed for 136 yards with 11 completions. He passed for one touchdown and gave up one interception. 
  • Kevon Lawson (Pompano Beach, Fla.) led in receptions with seven for a total 74 yards along with one touchdown. 
  • Josiah Lugo (San Antonio, Texas) led on the ground with 44 yards for the Cougars. 
  • Devean Shearer (Saint Charles, Ill.) and Kadin Stroer (Warrenton, Mo.)  tied for a total of nine tackles. 
 
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED 
QUARTER ONE

CUC won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. BenU began with a strong scoring drive, scoring a touchdown in five plays to put them up 7-0. Feeling the pressure, CUC responded with a couple handoffs to Lugo for a total of  33 yards, putting CUC in scoring position. Bosch then connected with Lawson for a big play of 15 yards, followed by another 21-yard completion that resulted in tying the game 7-7. During Benedictine next drive, they advanced to scoring position but were pushed back by a penalty, forcing them to settle for a field goal attempt that put them ahead 10-7. Unable to convert on downs on the next drive, CUC is forced to kick off. Benedictine took the opportunity and completes another passing touchdown to increase the score 17-7. Ending the first quarter, CUC would have possession going into the second quarter. 


 
QUARTER TWO 
Starting off the second quarter, the CUC offense continued to struggle, resulting in an interception that BenU turned into a touchdown, increasing their lead 24-7. After gaining possession, CUC was unable to achieve a first down and were forced to punt. With the punt traveling 20 yards, Benedictine was able to return the ball for a 43-yard touchdown, extending their lead out to 30-7. The remainder of the quarter ended with both teams exchanging drives, with neither being able to score with 12 minutes left. 


 
QUARTER THREE
Beginning the third quarter, CUC began with possession, piecing together a nine snap drive for a total of four yards. Throughout the rest of the quarter, both teams struggled to find the end zone, resulting in a scoreless third quarter.
 
QUARTER FOUR
The scoreless cycle broke with Benedictine rushing for a touchdown, extending their lead out to 38-7. On the last drive for the Cougars, they created a three play drive for seven yards. After the final two minutes ran down the came finished with a final score of 38-7, in favor of the Eagles. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Concordia Cougars will stay at home for their final NACC match vs Aurora University on Senior Night. They will host on this upcoming Saturday at 12:00 pm.
