RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday for the first time in 2019 to take on MIAA opponent, Kalamazoo College.
Face off is set to start at 1 p.m. (CST) with a live coverage available at
cucougars.com/coverage.
Last Time Out... In a midweek match up, Concordia-Chicago defeated Carroll University 9-6. Returning to where the program once won its first ever game, CUC routed the Pioneers thanks to scoring efforts from seven different Cougars. CUC's
Hunter Combe,
Brett Krueger and
Tate Macfarlane all led the way with four points apiece.
A Season of Firsts... Just two games into the season, the Cougars are already looking to continue breaking barriers for the men's lacrosse program. As the team has competed in its first ever overtime contest, earned its first ever conference Player of the Week honor and tallied its earliest win in a season to date, CUC will now work to build upon its momentum and reach an unprecedented second win of the season.
Scouting the Hornets... Kalamazoo is off to a solid 1-0 start this season, taking a win against Benedictine University last week, by way of 15-8. In the game, the Hornets had just four goal scorers with Jake Loveland leading the way with five. Brandon Wright and Dylan McGorisk each scored four goals, in addition to Harrison Ramsey netting one for himself. The biggest story of Kalamazoo's opener however, was goalkeeper Nate Silverman, who recorded 16 saves and had a .67 save percentage on the day. Silverman's efforts earned him MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on March 4.
Liskey's Mask... With big expectations coming into his sophomore year, it took just one game for
Jack Liskey to reclaim his throne. The Crown Point, Ind. native earned
MLC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday night, for stopping 17 shots and finishing with a 65.4 save percentage in CUC's 9-8 overtime loss to Oglethorpe last weekend. His efforts in net against the Stormy Petrels also helped CUC compete in its first ever overtime contest. With Liskey's honor, it marked the first time a Cougar men's lacrosse player earned MLC accolades. Since then, the sophomore also tallied four saves and earned his first win of the season in a 9-6 victory over Carroll University earlier this week.
Ship it Off to Boston... Freshman
Boston Dumas has had a stellar start to his career over the first two games of the year, with the rookie leading from the face off circle and winning 25 of 33 face offs. The Utah native currently leads the team with 16 ground balls and has also tallied three goals and one assist in the opening matches.
A Warm Welcome... Brett Krueger's return to college lacrosse was well-received as the junior scored a game-high five points against Oglethorpe. With points off three goals and two assists, Krueger assisted on two man-up goals and scored what proved to be the equalizing goal to send CUC into overtime. Against the Pioneers, Krueger once again had a team-high four points and scored would eventually be the ultimate game-winner.
