Cougars Return to Iowa for Rematch with Spartans

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Onto a three-game win streak, the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team will return to University of Dubuque this afternoon to take on the Spartans.

Face off is set to start at 4 p.m. (CST) in Dubuque, Iowa with live statistics and video coverage available at cucougars.com/coverage

Last Time Out...The Cougars presented their most dominant victory in program history last week, trouncing Earlham College in a 12-1 game. CUC's scoring efforts were paced by Brett Krueger and Hunter Combewho scored four and three goals each, respectively. Concordia-Chicago opened up the contest with an unanswered nine-point tear before allowing Earlham to tally its lone goal of the day.

Scouting the Spartans... Dubuque is off to a 3-5 start this season, and is facing the red-hot Cougars after winning a quadruple overtime contest, 7-6 over Monmouth College yesterday. Michael Jango and Tanner Weis lead the Spartans in 2019, with 14 and 13 goals, respectively. Gavin Hughes leads his squad in assists, with 11 so far, including five goals scored. Dubuque has three different netminders sharing minutes between the pipes, led by Samuel Kopecky with a 59.2 save percentage.

Pieces to the Puzzle... Concordia-Chicago has a well spread offense this season, with 11 different Cougars appearing in the scoring column. New to the offense, freshman Nick Fiske recorded his first career points last week against Fontbonne, as the rookie finished the day with a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. Four different Cougars lead CUC's offense in different ways, with Brett KruegerBoston DumasHunter Combe and Jordan Loeffler all having 11 or more goals scored and at least four assists each. Dumas and Krueger are tied in total points with 25, as Dumas has 16 goals and nine assists, and Krueger has 17 goals with eight assists.

Ship it Off to Boston... Freshman Boston Dumas has had a stellar start to his career over the first six games of the year, with the rookie leading from the face off circle and winning 91 out of 142 face offs. Dumas' face off percentage (.641) is good for 39th nationally among Division III lacrosse and second among the MLC. The Utah native currently leads the team with 66 ground balls and is 20th in the country with 9.43 ground balls per game. After scoring eight goals and one assist against Cornell, Dumas shattered CUC's record for most goals and points scored in a single game. He now ranks among the top 10 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference for total goals thus far on the season.

Liskey's Mask... With big expectations coming into his sophomore year, it took just one week for Jack Liskey to reclaim his throne. Reigning MLC Defensive Player of the Week has combined for 95 saves already this season, good for the most stops in the conference. His efforts in net against the Stormy Petrels in CUC's opener helped the Cougars compete in the program's first ever overtime contest. With Liskey's MLC honor, it marked the first time a Cougar men's lacrosse player had ever earned such accolades. Since then, the sophomore has earned four wins in net and scored his first ever career goal with an 80-yard launch downfield. Currently, Liskey ranks 48th nationally, averaging a 58.6 overall save percentage. With his most previous win against Fontbonne, the sophomore tallied 13 saves, bringing his career total to 300 on the dot. After the win at Earlham, he now has 316 career saves.
