RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- With a two-game win streak under their belts, the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team will look to check one more victory off in the win colum this weekend, taking on Earlham College in non-conference action.
Face off is set to start at 12 p.m. (CST) in Richmond, Ind. with live statistics available at
cucougars.com/coverage.
Last Time Out... Earlier this week, the Cougar men traveled to St. Louis to take on Fontbonne University in MLC conference play. CUC routed the Griffins 15-8, marking the first time in program history that Concordia-Chicago has won back-to-back games. In net,
Jack Liskey finished with 13 saves off 38 shots faced. The sophomore netminder picked up his third win of the season and completely shut out Fontbonne's offense during the second quarter of play. With his 13 saves on Wednesday, the Indiana native has now reached 300 career saves.
Scouting Earlham... Earlham is off to a 1-5 start this season, picking up its lone win over Anderson back in February. In early March, Earlham fell 19-4 to Oglethorpe University, which CUC played a tight 9-8 overtime contest with on their opening day. The maroon and white average 4.83 goals per game so far this season, with Joel Dominguez leading his team's charge with 11 goals scored on the year.
Hot Potato... Concordia-Chicago has a well spread offense this season, with eight different Cougars appearing in the scoring column. New to the offense, freshman
Nick Fiske recorded his first career points last game against Fontbonne, as the rookie finished the day with three goals scored, including the game-winning goal. Four different Cougars lead CUC's offense in different ways, with
Brett Krueger,
Boston Dumas,
Hunter Combe and
Jordan Loeffler all having 10 or more goals scored and at least four assists each.
One Love Foundation... Throughout the remainder of this season, the Cougars will be taking part in the
One Love Foundation which aims to inspire a movement to end relationship abuse. For this weekend's game, CUC will be honoring a former UVA women's lacrosse player with special t-shirts underneath their game jerseys.
Ship it Off to Boston... Freshman
Boston Dumas has had a stellar start to his career over the first six games of the year, with the rookie leading from the face off circle and winning 81 out of 127 face offs. Dumas' face off percentage (.638) is good for 41st nationally among Division III lacrosse and second among the MLC. The Utah native currently leads the team with 58 ground balls and is 18th in the country with 9.67 ground balls per game. After scoring eight goals and one assist last weekend, Dumas shattered CUC's record for most goals and points scored in a single game. He now ranks among the top six in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference for total goals thus far on the season.
Liskey's Mask... With big expectations coming into his sophomore year, it took just one week for
Jack Liskey to reclaim his throne. Reigning
MLC Defensive Player of the Week has combined for 79 saves already this season, good for the most stops in the conference. His efforts in net against the Stormy Petrels in CUC's opener helped the Cougars compete in the program's first ever overtime contest. With Liskey's MLC honor, it marked the first time a Cougar men's lacrosse player had ever earned such accolades. Since then, the sophomore has earned three wins in net and scored his first ever career goal with an 80-yard launch downfield. Currently, Liskey ranks 59th nationally, averaging 13.7 saves per game. With his most previous win against Fontbonne, the sophomore tallied 13 saves, bringing his career total to 300 on the dot.
