CUC Looks to Streak Against Griffins

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After winning their second game of the season, for the first time ever in program history, the Concordia-Chicago men's lacrosse team will push to win two games in a row as they take on Fontbonne University this afternoon.

Face off is set to start at 4 p.m. (CST) in St. Louis, MO with live statistics available at cucougars.com/coverage

Last Time Out... En route to defeating the Cornell Rams 16-9 on Saturday, Concordia-Chicago checked off several program milestones including the most goals ever scored in a single game and most wins in a season, in the team's history. With the previous single-game high being 10 goals, during CUC's first ever program win over Carroll University in 2016, the Cougars surpassed the three-year record with a monstrous 16-goal performance. Freshman Boston Dumas also shattered the program's records for most points and goals scored in a game, as the rookie scored eight goals and finished with nine points. With nine saves in nearly 50 minutes of work in net, sophomore Jack Liskey earned his second win of the season and third career win, making him the winningest goalie in a career and a season, in CUC history to date.

Scouting the Griffins... Fontbonne is off to a slow start this season, with an 0-4 overall record and 0-1 stance in conference play. In MLC action, the Griffins have lost to MSOE, 18-4. Allowing 17.5 goals per game, Fontbonne's senior Michael Piccolo leads the offense with seven goals and one assist through the season thus far. Other contributors include Alex Scott and Connor Mallette who each have four goals apiece.

A Season of Firsts... Five games into the season, the Cougars continue to break barriers for the men's lacrosse program. Some of the milestones the Cougars have reached are competing in the program's first ever overtime contest, earning its first ever conference Player of the Week honor, tallying its earliest win in a season to date, recording a second win in a single season and breaking the single game record for most goals scored. From here, CUC will look to go on a consecutive win streak, a feat which has yet to be reached in the program's history.

Ship it Off to Boston... Freshman Boston Dumas has had a stellar start to his career over the first five games of the year, with the rookie leading from the face off circle and winning 65 out of 103 face offs. Dumas' face off percentage (.631) is good for 45th nationally among Division III lacrosse and second among the MLC. The Utah native currently leads the team with 44 ground balls and is 31st in the country with 8.8 ground balls per game. After scoring eight goals and one assist last weekend, Dumas shattered CUC's record for most goals and points scored in a single game. He now ranks among the top five in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference for total goals thus far on the season.

Liskey's Mask... With big expectations coming into his sophomore year, it took just one week for Jack Liskey to reclaim his throne. Reigning MLC Defensive Player of the Week has combined for 66 saves already this season, good for second most in the conference. His efforts in net against the Stormy Petrels in CUC's opener helped the Cougars compete in the program's first ever overtime contest. With Liskey's MLC honor, it marked the first time a Cougar men's lacrosse player had ever earned such accolades. Since then, the sophomore has earned two wins in net and scored his first ever career goal with an 80-yard launch downfield. Currently, Liskey ranks 60th nationally, averaging 13.2 saves per game.
