June 24, 2011 - Concordia University Chicago announces the appointment of Terry Farrell as head coach for the men's tennis team. Farrell succeeds Bob Hegner who coached the Cougar men the past four seasons.
Farrell, who has played tennis since he was in grade school, took his first job as a tennis instructor for youth 15 and under at The Club in Treasure Island, Florida in 1973. By 1976, he was teaching all ages as an assistant tennis pro at the renowned Broadmoor Tennis Academy in Largo founded by Australian tennis legend Harry Hopman.
Farrell relocated to Kansas City in 1976 where he taught at First Stringer Tennis. The club was directly affiliated with World Championship Tennis founded by legendary sportsman, promoter and owner Lamar Hunt. Farrell served as the court manager and the club as the official stringer for the WCT including such players as Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith and Harold Solomon during the World Doubles Championships.
Farrell relocated to River Forest in 2010, and his tennis background and close proximity to the campus made for a good opportunity when the position of Concordia men's tennis coach opened up. “I really love the sport, and I look forward to taking the Cougars to the next level,” said Farrell. “I hope our passion for the game will translate to victories.”
Farrell is a native Chicagoan who attended Notre Dame High School in Niles and studied advertising journalism at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He is a licensed real estate broker in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. In 1994, he co-founded RE/MAX Best Associates which grew to become the 13th largest residential real estate firm in Kansas City. He recently completed requirements to become a Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) and a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA). Farrell has also authored “Real Estate Matters” for his company's website and for the Sun newspapers for more than a decade.
