IWLCA Selects Six Cougars For Academic Honor Roll


RIVER FOREST, ILL. — Six Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's lacrosse players were honored with Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll honors. The following Cougars were selected to be a part of this honor roll: Kate Johnson (Lincoln, Neb.), Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.), Nina Naes (St. Louis, Mo.), Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), Kelli Pietrowski (Wheeling, Ill.), and Chloe Schaafsma (Lockport, Ill.).

To be recognized by the IWLCA Academic Honor roll, women's lacrosse athletes must be in their junior, senior, or graduate school years. Additionally, they must maintain above a 3.50 GPA or greater for their cumulative academic year.

Of the juniors, Johnson appeared and started in all 14 games for the Cougars. She also led the team in shots on goal percentage with a .824. Also recognized was Parker, who also appeared and started in every game for the maroon and gold. She led in both categories of draw controls with 41 and ground balls with 47. As the third highest scorer on the team, Parker accumulated 22 goals, five assists, and 27 points.

For the seniors, McGee was chosen after being the primary goaltender for the Cougars. She totaled 162 saves on the season and a save percentage of .488. A huge career mark was passed for McGee when she surpassed 300 career goals against Kalamazoo on March 26th. Joining McGee was Naes, who was an additional offensive threat for CUC. She led the team in shot percentage with a .455 and second on the team in assists with six. Finally, Schaafsma was second on the team in caused turnovers with 14 and third on the team in ground balls with 29.

The lone graduate student chosen was Pietrowski, who led the team in most offensive categories. She was the Cougars leading scorer with 36 goals, three assists, and 39 points. As a continual threat, she totaled eight hat tricks on the season.
