Early Offense Not Enough for Cougars

Box Score Dubuque, Iowa – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's lacrosse team traveled to Iowa on Sunday to take on the Clarke University Pride, where they fell short, losing 10-8.

Inside the Box Score
  • Triston Ploch (Wenatchee, Wash.) and Jarred Tabor (Crystal Lake, Ill.) each tallied two goals to lead the Cougars offense.
  • Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.) added one goal and two assists.
  • Carter Jedras (Mt Prospect, Ill.) netted his first career goal.
The Cougars got out to a hot start as Cicero started the scoring just 40 seconds into the game followed by Tabor's first of the game only 34 seconds later to put CUC up 2-0. It would not be much longer till Tabor found the back of the net again to make it 3-0 and force a Clarke timeout.

Ploch added his first of the day to make it 4-0 Cougars before the Pride would get on the scoreboard and cut the deficit in half. Sean Dooley (Ocala, Fla.) stopped the bleeding with a goal and the Cougars ended the first quarter up 5-2.

After Clarke got another one back, Ploch answered with this goal off the pass from Cicero.
The Pride were able to score once more at the end of the quarter, and CUC led 6-4 going into halftime.

The third quarter was controlled by the Pride as they scored one goal and held the Cougars to just six shots. The Cougars went into the fourth quarter up 6-5.

Early in the fourth quarter, Clarke was able to find the equalizer and then soon after took their first lead of the day at 7-6. Although, Justin Headley (Baltimore, Md.) was able to answer for the Cougars and tied it again just 13 seconds later.

After about seven minutes of back-and-forth action, Clarke was able to break the tie and then add an insurance goal to go ahead 9-7. Jedras was able to score his first career goal late in the quarter to bring the Cougars within one again.
The Pride answered with one more of their own and won 10-8.

The Cougars will head to Wisconsin next weekend to take on Northland College on Saturday, March 25 starting at 12:00 p.m. Coverage for that and all things CUC men's lacrosse can be found at cucougars.com.
