Riding a three-game winning streak to start their 2021 season, the Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (3-0) arrives home to Concordia Stadium on Saturday, March 13, for their home opener against the Franklin College Grizzlies (0-1).
Â
The early-season road trip saw the Cougars defeat Monmouth College, Cornell College and Anderson University by a combined score of 41-11. They have yet to give up more than four goals in a single game and are limiting opponents to under 14 shots per game.
Â
Offensively, four Cougars will hope to add to three-game goal scoring streaks: sophomore
Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) who leads the team with 11 goals, junior
Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.), senior
Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.), and sophomore
Grace Miller (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). The four accounted for 30 of the Cougars' goals so far this season. On defense, the Cougars have a top-ranked goalie in sophomore
Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.), who ranks fifth in the NCAA for goals-against average with a 3.68
Â
The only previous meeting between the Cougars and Grizzlies was last February at Franklin. CUC had a dominant 16-2 victory in which Emily, Elizabeth and Orenstein all scored along with sophomores
Nina Naes (St. Louis, Mo.) and
Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.).
