Lang Scores Hat Trick in Cougars Loss

Box Score

Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse (1-2) dropped a non-conference game on the road at Adrian College (2-1) by a final score of 14-10.

The Cougars struggled to put the pressure on early in the game and were out-shot 17-8 in the first quarter. Despite this, the team made the most of their opportunities, scoring on two of their four shots on goal to enter the second down 3-2.

Adrian came out of the gates hot in the second quarter, scoring three goals in the first four minutes and jumping to a 6-2 lead. The Cougars eventually settled down on the defensive end, but managed just two shots on goal in the first 14 minutes of the quarter. Freshman Noah Gfell (Sylvani, Ohio) scored in the final minute to send the Cougars to the half down three.

The third quarter started a lot like the second, with the Bulldogs scoring five goals in the first six minutes. Concordia was again able to regain their composure, allowing just one more goal in the final nine minutes of the third. Senior Benjamin Lang (West Dundee, Ill.) added a goal and the Cougars trailed 12-4 entering the final 15 minutes.

The teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the fourth, with Lang and Mordhorst both netting their second goals of the afternoon. The scoring again slowed as the quarter rolled on, with Gfell adding his second of the game with five minutes to play.

The Cougars had a massive scoring outburst at the end of the game, scoring three goals in the final 1:03. Junior Bransen Bonnell (South Bend, Ind.) got the mini run going, with sophomore Chadd Rowe (Atlatna, Ga.) adding a goal and Lang securing a hat trick.

It is the first hat trick of Lang's career, and the senior now has five goals in his last two games. Mordhorst has kept pace with Lang over the last two contests with his pair of goals today. Mordhorst and Rowe have scored at least one goal in each of the Cougars' three games this season.

The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Indiana to take on Taylor University. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m. CDT and a stream can be found on the Taylor University Athletics website.
