Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse (1-1) is back in action Wednesday evening on the road against Adrian College (1-1). Both teams lost their season-opener but will enter this matchup looking to start a winning streak.
CUC's defense rebounded well in their second game of the season. Senior goaltender Jack Liskey (Crown Point, Ind.) stopped 80 percent of the shots that came his way as he won NACC Defensive Player of the Week. It had been 12 games since the Cougars held an opponent to as low of a score as they did on Saturday.
The team will also have to keep up the pressure on offense. They scored six goals in two different periods on Saturday, scoring in spurts and sharing the wealth. Freshman Clayton Emery (Fishers, Ind.) has made an immediate impact on the team, with five goals in two games.
They haven't been afraid to pass the ball, either. They assisted on more than 50 percent of their goals this season, led by Chadd Rowe (Atlanta, Ga.), who dished out four on Saturday alone.
While the Cougars played two games that weren't particularly close, Adrian's two matches thus far were decided by a total of five points, including a one-point win on Saturday. Travis Fox leads the team with six goals on the year, while fellow junior Chris French is the top point-scorer with four goals and four assists in two games. Slowing down that duo will be critical to the Cougars' success.
The teams met for the first time last March before the season shut down. Adrian won the game 14-9, with French and Fox combining for eight goals.
Wednesday's game is set to begin at 4 p.m. EST and a stream to the game will be available on the
Adrian Athletic's Website.
