River Forest, Ill. — The Concordia Chicago men's basketball team is heading north of the border for a battle with the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Monday night. The Cougars are looking to get into the win column after a 0-3 start to the year, while the Raiders of MSOE enter the game with a 1-0 record after having not played since Jan. 14.
The Cougars flexed some of their youth in the early going with freshman guard Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) leading the team, averaging over 12 PPG. Wilson shot just 3-11 from the floor in CUC's latest contest, but had one of the best plays of the game with a highlight reel dunk early in the first half.
Veteran leadership is also starting to show through for the Cougars as junior Izak Ruddell (Saint Joseph, Mich.) filled out the stat sheet on Saturday with 14 points on 4-6 shooting. The guard also set the tone in hustle stats during that game, leading the team with five rebounds while also blocking three shots and forcing two steals.
In their only contest of the season, MSOE capitalized on their dominance in the paint, out-scoring their opponent by a margin of 30-4 underneath and grabbing 50 rebounds to their 27. The rebounds came at both ends of the floor for the Raiders, and they were able to post a 21-8 advantage in second chance points.
The wealth was shared in the Raiders 90-point output, with 15 different players scoring at least one bucket. Junior forward Will Busch led the team with 15 points in 15 minutes off the bench. The tandem of starting guards Michael Pitrof and Josh Herzog both posted 14 point efforts.
The contest is currently scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. Monday night in Milwaukee. A link to the game can be found through the
MSOE website.
