Muskies Down Cougars to Close Out Season

Plymouth, Wis. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team traveled to Plymouth, Wis. to battle against the Muskies of Lakeland University to close out their regular season. After an aggressive matchup, the Muskies swept the Cougars with a final score of 92-78, capping off the Cougars' season.
 
Inside the Box Score:
  • Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the season closer with 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
  • Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) closed out the game with 15 points, two rebounds, an assist and three steals.
  • Matthew Guthrie (Carlyle, Ill.) ended the game with 12 points and led with 10 rebounds; his other stats include two blocks.
  • Aaron Brown (Joliet, Ill.) concluded the game with 12 points and three rebounds.
 
Here's What Happened
First Half
The Muskies got in the first points of the half with a jumper. Williams came in with two jumpers, the teams tying, 4-4. Williams continues to add points up for the Cougars with an amazing three. Guthrie came in with an impressive dunk, along with another jumper from Williams, putting the Cougars up by seven. Jacob Robinson (Saint Louis, Mo.) joined his teammates in scoring, along with additional points from Guthrie. Brown got in a layup, putting the Muskies in a 13-point deficit. The Muskies finally overcame their scoring drought with some free throws. Johnson hit a jumper, breaking 20 for the Cougars. Brown got a layup in, while the Muskies gained five points, 22-9. The Muskies slowly stacked on points, coming within three of the Cougars. Robinson and Guthrie delivered jumpers, trying to create more distance between the teams. A three from the Muskies had put them within one of the Cougars, 31-30. The team eventually tied up with 34-34. The Cougars went into halftime, maintaining their lead, 35-34.




 
Second Half
The Muskies scored first coming into the second half. Williams got a layup in, while Robinson delivered a three. The Muskies took the lead and the Cougars trail by two. Honore Yangoua (Williamstown, Ky.) got in a jumper, but the Cougars were still down by five. The Muskies continued to deliver layups, bumping their lead to 11 points. A layup from Yangoua had put the Cougars back within single digits. Layups from Brown and AJ Willard (Germantown, Wis.) helped the Cougars finally break 50 as they remained in a 16-point deficit. Williams hit a jumper, 69-53. Ryker Johnson got in a good layup, while Williams delivered another layup, stashing 15 points under his belt. Carter Privatt (Germantown, Wis.) landed his first 3-pointer of the game, getting the Cougars within 12. Free throws from Johnson put the Cougars within 10. The Cougars continued to push forward as Johnson got in a layup and Yangoua was able to get some free throws in, 84-74. The Muskies swept the Cougars with a final score of 92-78, ending the Cougars' official season.
