Women's Lacrosse Begins MWLC Play at Marian

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After starting off the season 2-0 through nonconference match ups, the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team will begin its conference portion of the season this weekend, beginning on Sunday against Marian University.

Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., in Fond du Lac, Wis., with live coverage available at cucougars.com/coverage and @CUChicagoWLax on Twitter.

What to Watch... The Cougars are 2-0 through their first two games this year, marking the first time in the program's five year history, that a team has begun its season with back-to-back wins. With a win over the Sabres, CUC will be on a three-game tear, tying the program's record for longest win streak in a single season. In both the 2019 and 2018 campaigns, the Cougars ended their respective seasons on three-game win streaks. Dating back to last season, Concordia-Chicago is now on a five-game win-streak, having not lost a contest since April 7, 2019 against Hamline University. CUC will look to extend the program's longest active win streak to six games with a win over the Sabres this weekend.

Rookies' Reign... Concordia-Chicago's seven freshmen have made immediate impacts in the early part of the 2020 season, as all seven have seen considerable minutes on the field already. Chicago native, Ryan McGee has started in net for CUC in both games thus far, and collected two wins, three saves, and allowed just three goals in 120 minutes of action. The rest of Concordia's six freshmen have all scored two or more goals through the first two contests, while Californian Rylee Orenstein has led the way for her class with a hat trick in each of her first two college lacrosse games. Duel-sport athlete Bailey Steinkamp wrapped up her first college basketball season late last week, before joining CUC in this week's win over Elmhurst, and wasted no time, scoring three goals and dishing two assists in the victory.

About the Sabres... Second-year program Marian University will face the Cougars on their 2020 opening day. The Sabres will face first-year program William Penn University first, at 12 p.m., before taking on CUC at 3:30 p.m. Last year, Marian finished its inaugural season at 3-15, while averaging 8.39 goals per game. The Cougars battled the Sabres last season, on March 2, 2019, and defeated the conference foe 16-4. In the win, then freshman Emily Cyrwus had three goals, three caused turnovers and four draw controls.
