March 22, 2019 - The inaugural season for Concordia-Chicago men's volleyball began with 15 matches on the road, followed by an opening home stand of six matches. The final two of those six home matches will take place this weekend, with a Friday night match against Marian University followed by a Saturday matinee against Lakeland University.
This will be CUC's second match against both Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes. On Feb. 8, CUC fell to Marian in three (23-25, 20-25, 16-25) despite 13 kills by
Nick Capers. The following day, Lakeland topped CUC in three (17-25, 17-25, 23-25) despite six kills and eight digs from
Brian Perez.
"I'm glad the scheduling was set this way," sadi CUC head coach
Rhyen Staley. 'It's been six weeks since we played both of these teams, and I want our players to use these matches as a measuring stick. These matches are about seeing where we've come from, where we are now and where we still want to go next season and beyond."
The Cougars come in looking for their first conference win and first win overall since their 4-0 start on Jan. 25-26. Marian is in the thick of the NACC race, currently in fourth with a 7-4 record (9-10 overall). Lakeland is 9-11 overall, 3-8 in the NACC and currently one game out of the NACC's final tournament berth. The Muskies play at Aurora this evening before coming to Geiseman on Saturday.
