Sept. 14, 2018 - In the journey that is the 2018 CUC football season, consider week three as a sort of mile marker. The home game versus Albion College will mark the final of the Cougars' three non-conference games before a bye week, followed by the start of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play in two weeks at Lakeland University. The Cougars will go in with a 1-1 record, but this week's contest may be arguably the stiffest of the three games thus far. For first-year head coach Mike Juscik, he is adamant about one thing.

"The important thing Saturday is that we want to come out of the game having improved as a team," states Juscik. "Yes, we want to win, and we're going to play hard and do some things that we think will give us an opportunity to come out with a victory against a very tough opponent. In the big picture, however, it's important that we continue to progress from week to week, learn more about ourselves and what we're capable of doing, and keep building toward what we hope will be a great run through conference starting in two weeks."

So what have the Cougars (and Cougar fans) learned about themselves in the first two weeks? Well, fans might answer that the team is an exciting one to watch after rolling over Beloit College in week one and hanging with Olivet College for much of the week two game. The Cougars have learned how several of their record-number first-year players are capable of impacting a football game, and watching these players develop further as the season progresses should create some exciting storylines in themselves.

One thing that the Cougars pretty much knew going into this season is what a weapon they have in running back Lance Moise. The junior from Coral Springs, Florida charged into the new season with a personal-best 303 yards in the Beloit game, becoming the third back in Concordia history to run for over 300 yards in a game, Last week, after a quiet opening quarter, Moise broke free in the second and helped bring the Cougars back into the game at Olivet after trailing 17-0.  Through the first two weeks, Moise's 450 yards leads all Division III rushers.

Albion comes into the game with a 2-0 record and a dangerous offensive weapon of its own in quarterback Kyle Thomas. The sophomore warmed up in week one with 290 passing yards and four touchdowns as the Britons crushed Defiance College 59-6. Last week, Thomas threw for 466 yards and totaled 542 yards of total offense - both Albion school records - as the Britons outscored Franklin College 56-35. Thomas is currently second in Division III for total offense and third in passing yards.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Cougars and Britons on the football field. But considering the potential for exciting storylines on both sides, the introductions may make this a most memorable Saturday for college football fans.
