Box Score River Forest Ill.- Concordia University Men's Lacrosse team hosted Northland College in their 2018 home opener. The Cougars opened up the season with a tough loss to North Central and looked to bounce back against the Lumberjacks.
Brian Harris and Hunter Combe each had one goal for the Cougars. Jack Liskey had a great game in net making 16 saves that went for a .552 save percentageÂ
Northland took control of the game early after a wraparound goal by Nick Anderson. Prior to the goal the Lumberjacks dominated possession for the first three minutes. Two minutes later they struck again off of a goal by Michael Lant, assisted by Michael Quarve to make the score 2-0. With four seconds left on the clock Tron Trondson ended the first period with a goal assisted by Lant to pad onto the lead.Â
It did not take much time for Northland to continue the scoring in the second period. Trondson netted his second goal of the match off of an assist from Quarve. In a man-up opportunity Harris trickled one through the goalkeepers legs for the first goal of the 2018 season assisted by Benjamin Lang, which shrunk the Lumberjack lead to 4-1. Shortly after, the Lumberjacks pushed another one past the Concordia defense for a 5-1 lead halfway through the period. Going into the halftime break, Northland College would score two more goals to increase their lead to a comfortable 7-1.Â
Halfway into the third quarter Trondson netted his fourth goal of the match and pushed the lead to 8-1. CUC's defense continued to grind out long possessions, but could not keep the Lumberjack's attack out of the zone. Trondson would score his fifth goal two minutes later to make it 9-1. The score would not change for the rest of the period and CUC would go into the fourth down 9-1.Â
In the fourth period Liskey had a phenomenal 60 yard assist to Combe where he put a little shake and bake move on the goalkeeper and his defender to make the score 10-2. Northland tacked on three late goals to win by the final score of 13-2.Â
The Cougars (0-2) looks to rebound in their next match against Heidelberg University on March 6th. Faceoff in River Forest is set for 2:00 pm.
