Football Preview, Week 6: Cougars Look to Cool Off Red Devils

What: CUC Football v. Eureka College
Where: Concordia Stadium
When: Saturday, Oct. 13, 1:00 PM
Links: Video   Live Stats

A challenging mid-season assignment awaits the Concordia-Chicago Cougars on Saturday afternoon as they host the Eureka College Red Devils.

A little history/background lesson is in order here: The Cougars and Red Devils were long-time members of the Illini-Badger Conference and its various incarnations for many years, and as a result have faced each other 38 times. The break came in 2008 as CUC began official play in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. In recent years, Eureka has been part of the Upper Midwest Athletics Conference before joining the NACC this year as an affiliate member. So, for the foreseeable future at least, the CUC-EC annual rivalry is on again!

Eureka comes into Saturday's game at 5-0 overall, 2-0 and tied for first with Concordia Wisconsin in the NACC standings. They are in the unique position of contending for a conference title after having won the title in their old conference last year; Eureka finished 8-1 in the UMAC and advanced to the Division III playoffs, where they lost in the first round to the University of St. Thomas (MN).

Much of the Red Devils' success this year has come on the feet of Preseason All-American back Le'Anthony Reasnover. While CUC's Lance Moise continues to lead NCAA Division III in rushing with 1,063 yards (212.6 per game), Reasnover is currently fourth at 851 yards (170.2), and his 16 rushing touchdowns are just one behind the national leader in that category.

The offense for Concordia-Chicago (1-4, 0-2 NACC) was more diversified last week, as three Cougars had season-best outputs in the stat columns. Quarterback Griffin Beaudette passed for 272 yards and ran for 54 more, while Eric Hoff caught 11 passes for 127 yards, including touchdowns of 39 and four yards, and Corey Dooley hauled in 10 for 123 yards. Moise ran for 139 yards and scored a first-quarter touchdown before leaving the game late in the third quarter.
