Box Score Jan. 9, 2018 – The Concordia-Chicago men's basketball team hit the road Tuesday night for Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action against the MSOE Raiders. After a couple of solid efforts last week, the Cougars came out flat this evening and were never able to recover, falling to the Raiders by a final score of 78-63.
Both teams came out of the gate with cold shooting, but the Raiders were the first to warm up. A 7-0 run, fueled by two putbacks from Travis Ballard, gave MSOE a 15-6 lead.
The Cougars remained cold from outside the paint, and it was not until the 8:22 mark when
Mitch Pelissier hit a three to make the score 23-11, MSOE.
Henry Woo Jr. later connected from downtown, but the Cougars' offense was frustrated the entire half and went to the locker room at half trailing 44-17.
MSOE shot 18-32 in the half, led by Ballard's 12 points on 6-7 from the field. CUC shot just 7-32 with Pelissier's five points leading the team. The Raiders also controlled the boards with a 27-13 advantage.
Concordia-Chicago came out for the second half with a new lineup and a boost of energy.
Sawyer Concklin and
Sheldon Moore hit threes in the first few minutes, and Pelissier hit a running jumper from the baseline, but the Cougars were unable to get the deficit under 20 points until the final minutes of the game.
Moore led the Cougars in scoring with a career-high 18 points, all in the second half. The junior shot 7-9 from the field including 4-6 from three-point range. The Cougars' other bright spot came from
Jalen Meeks, making his season debut. Meeks scored five points to go with three steals and an assist in 11 minutes.
The Cougars (1-12, 0-9 NACC) will return to action on Thursday night when they host Rockford University at Geiseman Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
