CUC's Joe Jacoby Announced as Semifinalist for NFL Hall of Fame

Box Score Nov. 20, 2014 – Joe Jacoby, offensive line coach for the Concordia University Chicago football program, is one of 26 semifinalists for the National Football League Hall of Fame's Class of 2015.

Jacoby was on the NFL Selection Committee's original list of 113 candidates for the 2015 class. The list was pared to 26 candidates on Nov. 18 and will be cut down to 15 in early January. The 2015 NFL Hall of Fame class will then be announced to the public on Jan. 31.

A 13-year offensive tackle for the Washington Redskins, Jacoby was a member of "The Hogs," the renowned group of linemen that, along with running back John Riggins, formed one of the most feared rushing attacks in football. In 1983, the Redskins set a then-record of 276 rushing yards in Super Bowl XVII to defeat the Miami Dolphins. That game featured what was arguably Jacoby's career-defining moment as he led the blocking for a Riggins' touchdown run of 43 yards. Jacoby also earned Super Bowl rings with the Redskins for the 1987 and 1991 seasons.

Jacoby was a four-time Pro Bowl lineman (1983-86) and a first-team All-Pro lineman in 1983 and 1984. He was also named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 1980s.

For all of his qualities that make him eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame, Jacoby is already a Hall of Fame type coach and player in the eyes of his peers at Concordia-Chicago. Head coach Randy Awrey states, "We feel very fortunate to have a man of his caliber who brings not only a prestigious background but also a great personality and strong character. Coach Jacoby is a very genuine person who comes across as a coach who really cares about his kids."
