Sept. 10, 2013 - For many members of the Concordia University Chicago football Cougars, this Saturday's home opener against the University of Chicago will be a day of firsts. But for six team members, they will embark on their final season of college football. While Senior Day is an annual rite for every football program, the fact that the Cougars will conduct their ceremony before this Saturday's kickoff is intended to make this season a celebratory one for seniors (L to R above) Danny Colapietro (Chicago, IL/Maine South), Marcus Frazier (Chicago, IL/Evergreen Park), Pat Ugolini (Seneca, IL/H.S.), Will Schuld (Chicago, IL/Walther Lutheran), Nick Awrey (Marquette, MI/Saginaw Nouvel Catholic) and Scott Illich (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake Central).
"Traditionally, you come to that final game of the season and there is a heaviness, a sad feeling that this is the last time they're putting on the pads," said head coach Randy Awrey. " I feel that celebrating the seniors this early in the season is a good thing to do because you have the optimism, the excitement of the new season in the air. We can put the focus on this being their year and looking ahead to some great games still ahead of them."

Saturday's ceremony will take place at 12:45 before the kickoff between the Cougars and Maroons. In keeping with tradition, Cougar fans are invited to take part in tailgating before and after the game in the David-Jonathon lot off of Monroe St on the west side of campus.
