The Concordia Cougars made two strides forward in the Northern Athletics Conference standings the past two days. A 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 victory over Lakeland College this morning at Geiseman Gym gave the Cougars their second NAC win in less than 24 hours as well as a perfect 3-0 mark for the weekend.
The Cougars used long serving rallies in each game, courtesy of Sarah Potter (New Haven, IN/Woodlan), Amy Fischer (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) and Savanna Ashbaugh (Waverly, IL/H.S.), to roll to the victory. In particular, Potter's serving was lethal today; the senior chalked up seven aces for the match, the most for a Cougar in a single match in two years.
Concordia's serving compensated for a hitting attack that got off to a good start in set one (13 kills, .357) but dropped off in sets two and three. The Cougars' blocking also contributed significantly as it did in Friday night's matches; the team recorded nine points on blocks, led by Bianca Gordon (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran) with two solos and four assists, and Potter with one solo and four assists.
Allison Davis led the Muskies with 10 kills and a .400 attack, followed by Amanda Dillman with nine kills. Potter's eight kills topped the Cougars while Gordon added seven.
The Cougars (10-11, 5-2 NAC) will look to run their winning streak to four Wednesday night when they host Benedictine University.
