Milwaukee, Wis. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars women's volleyball team made their way to the Milwaukee School of Engineering to go up against the Raiders. After three sets of back-to-back gameplay, the Raiders defeated the Cougars 3-0.
Inside the Box Score:
- Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) led the match with 11 kills, 28 total attacks and five digs.
- Rachel Livesay (Medinah, Ill.) walked away with nine kills, 30 total attacks, two aces and 10 digs.
- Indiah Day (Merrillville, Ind.) had seven kills, 32 total attacks, one ace and three digs, along with Ava Quevedo (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who had seven kills, 17 total attacks, three blocks and two digs.
Here's What Happened
Set One
The Raiders were the first on the scoreboard. The Cougars took the lead after kills from Livesay. In the set's first timeout, the Cougars remained in the lead with 11-6. After multiple kills from the Raiders, both teams tied up 11-11. The Cougars gained their lead back after blocks from Hunt and McKayla LeVoy (Kankakee, Ill.). The teams continuously fought to win the set, going over the 25-point mark. Finally, the set ended with the Raiders in the lead 29-27, going into set two with 1-0.
Set Two
The Raiders were first on the scoreboard after an out-of-bounds kill from the Cougars. The Cougars came back with a quick lead after kills from Livesay and Day, putting the team up 8-2. The Cougars managed to keep their 10-point lead on the Raiders with amazing work at the net and quick reflexes. The Cougars continued to dominate as they kept their lead with 16-12. The Raiders gained some momentum back as they snuck up on the Cougars, making the score 22-23. The Raiders overtook the Cougars and ended up taking set two 26-24, pushing into set three 2-0.
Set Three
The Cougars were the first on the scoreboard following a kill from Harmonie Cooper (Chicago, Ill.). The teams tied up 4-4 before a block by Quevedo pushed the Cougars forward. The Raiders eventually took the lead, putting the Cougars back 13-15. The Raiders pushed farther ahead with the Cougars trailing closely behind. Another kill by Cooper led the teams into a tie of 22-22. The Cougars fought, but it proved to not be enough as the Raiders took the third and last set with 25-23, defeating the Cougars 3-0.
