Cougars Swept Victory Over Neighboring Stars

RIVER FOREST, ILL.- The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars women's volleyball team made their way down the street to their neighbors, the Stars of Dominican. After three hard fought sets, the Cougars swept the Stars 3-0. 

 

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Indiah Day (Merrillville, Ind.) led the Cougars with 11 total kills and accumulated a total of 11.5 points. Day finished with 5 digs and 24 total attacks.
  • Both Eva Fitzgerald (Houston, Texas) and Malainna Adler (Fenton, Mo.) tied, leading with 15 assists. 
  • Rosemary Brenner (Frankenmuth, Mich.) walked away leading the scoresheet with 14 digs. 
 

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED 

SET ONE

With a bad set by the Stars, the Cougars opened the set, putting the first point on the board.Capitalizing on early errors from the Stars, the Cougars rapidly took a 6-2 lead. The Stars responded with multiple kills, leveling the score at 7-7. Regaining their composure, the Cougars continued to build off their momentum created by kills from Day and benefiting from Dominican's errors. Both teams battled throughout the set, but the Cougars gained a lead by 10 and were the first to hit 25 that led them winning the set. The set ended with a 25-15 victory for the Cougars, going into set two, 1-0.


 
 

SET TWO

Neva Foster (Parker, Colo.) started strong with a kill, putting the Cougars on the board first. Both teams traded points early on in the set but resulted in the Cougars pushing forward to lead, 13-9. With consistent efforts and strong teamwork, the Cougars managed their lead over the Stars. Despite the Stars gaining momentum by scoring seven consecutive points, the Cougars secured the game winning point, reaching 25. The Cougars defeated the Stars and took the second set 25-21, with a 2-0 lead. 

 

 

SET THREE

Switching things up, the Stars were first on the scoreboard. The Cougars responded quickly, with a kill by Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) sparking a run that put them ahead 6-1. Despite trailing, the Stars closed the gap, narrowing the Cougars lead to just one point. A couple timeouts and a hard fought set, the Stars managed to tie the score and briefly take the lead. Ultimately, the Cougars took the victory in the final set 25-23, with a 3-0 sweep against the Stars.
