CUC Drops Final Match of 2025 Season Against Lakeland

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars women's volleyball team welcomed the Huskies of Lakeland University for their final game of the season. After three sets of intense gameplay, the Muskies defeated the Cougars 3-0.

 

Inside the Box Score:

  • Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) scored eight and a half points with eight kills, 19 total attacks, one ace and six digs.
  • Indiah Day (Merrillville, Ind.) had six points with six kills, 25 total attacks, one ace and seven digs.
  • Jordan Brown (Bensenville, Ill.) had four points with four kills, 10 total attacks and two digs, along with teammate Ava Quevedo (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who had four kills, 20 total attacks, and one dig.
 

Here's What Happened

Set One

The Muskies were the first on the scoreboard after an attack error from the Cougars. The teams exchanged points back and forth in the beginning of the set before a kill by Day pushed the Cougars into the lead. Eva Fitzgerald (Houston, Texas) took initiative, delivering three aces in a row, putting the Cougars up 11-7. Kills by Quevedo and Hunt, along with attack errors from the Muskies kept the Cougars in the lead. By the set's first timeout, the Cougars were up 19-15. The Muskies gained a lead with 23-22, but the Cougars continued to fight. The Muskies took set one with 25-23, going into set two 1-0.



 

Set Two

The Cougars were the first on the scoreboard with the Muskies coming in right after. The Muskies quickly took the lead after multiple kills. A kill from Hunt and Harmonie Cooper (Chicago, Ill.) put the Cougars within three points of the Muskies. The Cougars continued to fall behind; attacks and blocks from the Muskies doing some damage. A kill from Quevedo picked up a point, but it was not enough as the Muskies took set two with 25-19, pushing into set three with 2-0.



 

Set Three

The Cougars were the first on the scoreboard after a kill by Fitzgerald. The Cougars started to fall behind after kills from the Muskies, putting the score to 4-1. The Cougars slowly began their rise after an ace from Bethany Roethel (Westby, Wis.) and two kills from Brown, making the score 9-12. The Muskies continued to speed ahead with 10 unanswered points before a kill from Beatriz Goncalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) broke their streak. The Muskies ultimately took the third and final set with 25-13, sweeping the Cougars 3-0.



 

What's Next

This marks the conclusion of the 2025 season for the CUC women's volleyball team. The Cougars end this season with a final record of 6-20 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
