The Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team closed out a 10-6-1 season this afternoon with a 1-1 tie against visiting Benedictine University.

The first half featured much of the play between the 20-yard lines with not a lot of scoring chances. However, Benedictine did take advantage of one of their few opportunities. Lindsay Prokaski controlled the ball in the middle of the field and fired from 20 yards out. Her shot just eluded the reach of Callie Hasselbring (Houston, TX/Cypress Ridge) and sailed under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.

Concordia made some adjustments at the half and took the attack to Benedictine. The pressure finally resulted in a Cougar goal in the 64th minute. Alyssa Soulis (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake North) ran onto a long ball from Abby Jest (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran), keeping a half-step ahead of her defender and fired from the left side. The ball beat the keeper and settled just inside the right post for Soulis' 23rd goal of the season.

The two rivals battled through two overtime periods with no scoring. The best chance for either side came early in the second overtime when Stephanie Rivas (Elmhurst, NY/Arts & Business) headed the ball just wide to the left of goal.

Head coach Thomas Goines' first season with the Cougars resulted in several highlights and records. Individually, Soulis finished with new single-season records for goals, assists (9) and points (55). Team-wise, the Cougars' 10 wins tied them with the 2003 and 2005 teams, but the 2011 team had a winning percentage of .618 that eclipsed the .550 of the other two teams.

The Cougars will return much of their personnel for next season. The lone senior lost to graduation is Kelly Engelking (Elgin, IL/Burlington Central) who was honored before today's match.
