Second-Half Surge Falls Short for CUC Against Edgewood

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's soccer team was back home to welcome their opponents, the Eagles of Edgewood University for a midweek NACC matchup. The first half was uneventful; the second half came back with a vengeance, both teams battling to the end, with the Eagles picking up a 2-1 victory.

Inside the Box
  • Katelyn Wagner (Lagrange, Ky.) managed three saves with her time as goalkeeper.
  • Elle Wheelock (Holland, Mich.) scored the Cougars' sole goal, along with contributing a shot and a shot on goal
  • Erika Flores (Oxnard, Calif.) contributed three shots and one shot on goal.

First Half
  • Cadence Hamby (Cumming, Ga.) kicked off the Cougars' efforts toward the net with a shot, but it was off-target, motivating the Cougars to keep trying.
  • The Eagles had put the pedal to the metal, forcing saves onto Wagner, which she handled easily.
  • Throw-ins kept the Cougars busy - putting in some fresh legs hoped to aid in less throw-ins and help the Cougars get some rhythm.
  • The scores between both teams remained null as they headed into halftime.

Second Half
  • Throw-ins continued to dominate both teams, but things changed when an Eagle was able to get past our goalkeeper and into the bottom left side of the net in the 53rd minute, finally putting the Eagle on the board.
  • Natalie Flores (Placentia, Calif.) and Hamby showed great offensive play as they moved fast on their feet, pushing towards the Eagles' goal, which resulted in a save.
  • In the 67th minute, another Eagle pulled off an extraordinary move, getting the ball into the upper left side of the net, doubling the Eagles' lead against the Cougars.
  • The Cougars retaliated immediately, slicing the lead in half with a goal from Wheelock, sending the ball into the bottom right side of the goal in the 69th minute.
  • The Cougars continued to make attempts at the net, constantly being cleared away by the Eagles, bringing the match to an end, the Eagles taking their road win 2-1.
