Early Goals Propel Stars Past Cougars

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's soccer team traveled down the street to Dominican University to battle against their Division Street rivals. The first half was eventful, while the second half slowed down. All in all, the Stars ended the match in the lead, taking the victory 3-0.

Inside the Box
  • Goalkeepers Katelyn Wagner (Lagrange, Ky.) and Reagan Christensen (Wetumpka, Ala.) did amazingly at the net, Wagner with 10 saves and Christensen with five saves.
  • Luciana Morán Cruz (Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico) had one shot.

First Half
  • The Stars opened up play; not even two minutes into the half, the Stars accomplished their first goal of the afternoon, sending the ball into the lower right side of the net, putting them on the board.
  • Not even ten minutes later, the Stars went on to double their lead against the Cougars, putting the ball into the back of the net through a penalty kick, pushing the Cougars further behind.
  • The Cougars did great in blocking off the Stars' offense, consistently blocking their attempts at the net. Wagner also demonstrated amazing efforts at the net, throwing herself in front of shots and collecting saves.
  • The half ended, the Stars in the lead at 2-0; the Cougars moved into halftime, hopefully for a better second half.

Second Half
  • The first half of the half was dominated with throw-ins and stronger efforts from the Cougars defensively.
  • Things on both ends slowed down significantly compared to the first half.
  • In the 83rd minute, the Stars scored their third goal, sending the ball into the lower right side of the net, continuing to push the Cougars into a bigger deficit.
  • The half ended, the Stars taking the win, 3-0.
