Cougars Knock Comets Out of Orbit in 3-0 Victory

OLIVET, Mich. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's volleyball team took a trip out to Michigan to face the University of Olivet. The Cougars made quick work of the Comets, sweeping the match 3-0. CUC is now 2-4.

Set One
The Cougars quickly got out to a 4-1 lead, which included two kills from Tristan Caminar (Bolingbrook, Ill.).



The University of Olivet and Concordia traded points until the Ford and Hoffman were able to spike down a pair of kills in a 3-0 run to take a 10-5 lead.  CUC was able to extend their lead to eight, 18-10, thanks to kills from Stella and Ford, a pair of blocks, a few errors by Olivet.



Ayaaz Arif (Bolingbrook, Ill.), Ford, and Stella kept the scoring going for the Cougars and a pair of kills from Caminar ended the set 25-17, in favor of CUC. Concordia went up 1-0 in the match.
 
Set Two
The Cougars remained hot, as Stella, Caminar, and Ford helped the Cougars jump out to a 7-2 lead. However, the Comets would close the gap to two points, 8-6. A service error from Olivet and a huge spike from Arif put Concordia back up by four.



The teams traded points, and the Comets were able to tie the game at 15-15. This lit a fire in the Cougars, as Hoffman's kill spurred a 5-0 run for CUC. Hoffman would score twice more in the run and Ford would record a service ace.



Hoffman would tack on three more kills as the Cougars took the set, 25-18 and go up 2-0.
 
Set Three
The final set started with the Comets tying the game up twice. After the second time, at 4-4, a pair of errors from the Comets and kills from Ford and Hoffman gave the Cougars an 8-4 lead.



Back-to-back kills from Ford and one from Stella kept the Cougars in the lead, as the Comets closed in 11-8. However, the Cougars were a powerhouse, going on a 14-4 run to end the match. Stella recorded five of those points while Ford had a block and the game winning kill. The Cougars won the set, 25-12 and won the match 3-0.
