KENOSHA, WIS. — The new year has rung for the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's track and field team and they are off to the races. As a team, the men's side sixth out of nine teams in the Carthage College Firebird First.

With the highest individual finish on the day, Xzavier Roman (Knox, Ind.) won first place in the 200-meter with a new personal record (PR) of 23.52 seconds. Right behind him was Miguel Sanchez (San Antonio, Texas) with a fourth place finish and a PR of 23.84 and Austin Knight (Forest Park, Ill.) with a fifth place finish

Sanchez continued his success in the 400-meter with a third place finish and a tenth place finish from Donovan Depakakibo (Norridge, Ill.) with a PR of 55.10 seconds

Also continuing a successful afternoon was Knight in both the high jump and 55-meter. He finished fifth in the high jump with a PR-tying 1.85 meters and sixth in the 55-meter with a PR of 6.71 seconds

The distance medley relay team also had a third place finish, consisting of Depakakibo, Matthew Cardwell (Cincinnati, Ohio), Adrian Mendez (Plano, Ill.), and Gus Strenge (Battle Creek, MI), with a time of 12:17.80

Mauricio Xochitecatl (Carol Stream, IL) had a ninth place finish in the 3000-meter

Jayden Taylor (Southfield, Mich.) rounded out the list with a 10th place finish in long jump with a 5.84 meter distance
