RIVER FOREST, ILL. — Katherine Benes (Oconomowoc, Wis.) of the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's basketball team earns her first career D3hoops.com Team of the Week honors. This is only the second time in program history for a women's basketball athlete to receive the honors. The last time was in the 2008-09 season by Marche Smith, who Benes also shares some records with. Also after another successful week, Benes earns her second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Player of the Week honor in a row.
After the Cougars picked up two big wins last week, Benes helped in both competitions by leading the offensive scoring. Against Concordia Wisconsin, Benes had 38 points while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three.
Hosting their first home opener of the season against the Mount Union Purple Raiders, the Cougars picked up another win led by Benes. She led with 24 points and shot 41 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.
She currently averages 28 points a game and has been an unstoppable force for the Cougars. The Cougar women's basketball team will be back Wednesday at home to take on Illinois Institute of Technology for a 12 p.m. tipoff.
