Box Score Plymouth, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team was on the road today, Sept. 29, as they took on the Lakeland University Muskies. After 90 minutes of play, the Cougars found themselves with a 1-0 loss to Lakeland.
CUC came out strong during the first half of the game. Their offense put up six shots compared to Lakeland's zero, with four of those being on goal. Even with this strong offensive pressure, the Cougars went to the locker room with no goals and a score of 0-0.
Once they came back on the field for the second half, mist covered the field and made it hard to see, however, the Cougars pushed on. Even though the defense remained consistent, the Muskies snuck by in the 54th minute to take a lead. That was the only goal scored in the game, which resulted in the 1-0 loss for CUC.
Even with the loss, there was much to be proud of for the Cougars. The defensive line for CUC shut down Lakeland's offense. Along with that, Concordia continued to keep the Muskies' defense on their toes as they added three more shots to their total by the end of the second.
Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) made big plays in net today, only allowing one goal out of the seven she faced.
Allie Brown (St. Louis, Mo.),
Medelin Loza (Cicero, Ill.) and
Lucia Fullone (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) contributed two shots each while
Valeria Fernandez (Burbank, Ill.),
Itzel Calderon (Oak Lawn, Ill.) and
Meagan Wilkinson (Georgetown, Ky.) each added one to the stat sheet.
The Cougars will be back in action again this Saturday, Oct. 2, as they travel to Milwaukee, Wis., to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders. Kickoff will be at 2 p.m.
