Box Score De Pere, Wis. -- The Concordia University Chicago Women's Tennis team wrapped up their opening weekend with a trip to visit conference newcomer St. Norbert College on Sunday. The Cougars fell in the match by a final score of 7-2.
After winning three total games on Saturday, the Cougars took seven over the Green Knights this afternoon. Junior Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) picked up four of those games after picking up one in both singles and doubles at Illinois Tech.
Sophomore Danzcel Gerona (Bartlett, Ill.) was responsible for the other three games won.
CUC's two points were awarded due to St. Norbert not having enough players participating in the match to fill out all of the spots. The matches were awarded to senior Emily Cyrwus (Chicago) and junior Jacquelyn Rocha (Waukegan, Ill.) in doubles and sophomore Mackenzie Straulin (Johnsburg, Ill.) in singles.
The team is back in action with a pair of matches next weekend, beginning with another trip north of the border to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The match is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.
